私が家族にカミングアウトしたのは父が他界してから数ヶ月後。「なんだそんなことか」とみんなに笑われました。今年2月に妻と結婚、アメリカでは既婚ですが日本では独身のままです。

現在勤務する会社でもカミングアウトしており、妻が飲み会に参加する、なんて事もあり周囲に恵まれてるなーと思います。

カミングアウトは必ずしなくてはいけないころではないですし、したいと思ったらすればいいと個人的に思います。父が存命している間にカミングアウトできたらな、と後悔はしていますがカミングアウトはタイミングも重要。無理にしなくてもいい。ただ私や私の妻をはじめ、いろんな方がカミングアウトをすることで勇気を与えられるかもしれない。独りじゃないって思える人もきっといる。このような素敵なプロジェクトに参加できて嬉しいです。ありがとうございます！

I teach English in small city in Tohoku. Far away from Tokyo, the only

LGBT people that the local population knows about are all on TV. When

I come out in casual conversation, I’m often met with the phrase

“You’re the first gay person I’ve met”. We all know that’s not true.

I’m out so that my students will know that being queer isn’t just a

thing on TV for getting laughs. I’m out so that my community will know

that LGBT people live ordinary lives like they do. I’m out so that

LGBT kids in my schools will know that they are not alone.
