For almost 30 years of my life, I was a member of the US military. And for 25 of those years it was illegal for someone to even say that they’re part of the LGBT community. Then in 2010 the law called “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” ended.

Japan is different. Many people just don’t understand what it means to be LGBT and how many people are in the community. For that reason I think OUT IN JAPAN is a great project to help bring understanding, support and acceptance of the LGBT community in Japan.

This year is an important year in my life. I have retired from the military, I will turn 50 years old, and although I’ve never thought coming out was important, (for 25 years it was illegal)… Being who I am is. When it’s your time you will too!

Thanks to the project team and Leslie Kee for helping me be part of OUT IN JAPAN!
